Why is my local digital service company not on the list of providers?
Services are offered from a range of national providers; however, we currently do not market services from all of the providers.
What if I am moving and don't know my telephone number?
Some providers require a telephone number in order to check availability for service. A telephone number is also needed when you place an order so that the service provider can follow up with you regarding your order.
What is broadband?
Simply put, the term 'broadband' refers to Internet access that is faster than 56K dial-up. The term broadband refers to any type of transmission technique that carries multiple voice, video or data channels simultaneously over a common wire. It is a large pipeline (much bigger than dial-up connection) that brings information to your home.
What types of broadband service are there?
Cable or Cable Modem - The Internet service provided by a cable company. The Internet connection is provided on the same type of cable that you plug into your television for cable TV service.
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) - Transforms copper telephone lines into carriers of digital data. DSL uses the same copper wires that carry voice traffic to your telephone to carry high-speed data.
Satellite - One-way high-speed Internet technology that uses satellites orbiting the Earth to transmit data downstream through a satellite dish attached to your home.
Mobile Internet - The Mobile Web refers to the use of Internet-connected applications, or browser-based access to the Internet from a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet computer, connected to a wireless network.
Can I use my current modem to receive high-speed Internet service?
You will need an approved modem for your service. Please contact your service company to confirm the compatibility of your modem.
What speed of Internet do I need?
Having the fastest speed possible for your needs will improve your online experience. A step down in speed equals a step down in performance. Higher speeds will enable faster music and photo downloads/uploads, video streaming will be smoother, and allow for more devices online at once.
What types of TV Service are available?
Over-the-air and free-to-air TV is free with no monthly payments while Cable, Direct Broadcast Satellite, and IPTV require a monthly payment that varies depending on the provider, necessary equipment, and number of channels.
Cable television is a system of providing television programs through coaxial cables or fixed optical fibers located on the subscriber's property.
Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is a system through which Internet television services are delivered using the Internet and broadband Internet access networks.
Satellite television is television programming delivered by the means of communications satellite and received by an outdoor antenna.
What is Digital TV?
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of audio and video by digital signals, in contrast to the analog signals used by analog TV. DTV has enabled broadcasters to offer television with better picture and sound quality. It also offers multiple programming choices, called multicasting, and interactive capabilities. Digital cable or digital satellite does not mean a program is in High Definition (HD).
What is HD TV?
High-definition television (or HDTV) is video that has resolution substantially higher than that of traditional television systems (standard-definition TV, or SDTV, or SD). HDTV has one or two million pixels per frame, roughly five times that of SD. What is e911?
Enhanced 911, E911 is a North American telecommunications based system that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party's telephone number, and routes the call to the most appropriate Public Safety Answering Point for that address. E911, or Enhanced 911, works the same way as typical 911 service, but also provides the benefit of automatically transmitting your telephone number and location to the emergency dispatcher. When you sign for VoIP service, you must give a permanent address along with your name. If you change address, make sure you update it with your provider.
